American Idol Has New Judges

The best news I’ve heard for a while about the slacking American Idol came out today. We knew coming out of this season’s finale that there would be only three judges next season. We also knew Randy Jackson was leaving the show after 12 seasons with American Idol. We also now know that Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, and Keith Urban are not returning to the show next season. We also have known that the show was looking at a fresh take and possible format change for the show. What could the show possibly do with its rough run on finding judges since Simon Cowell left? The show is looking to its former Idols to bring the show back to life and judge next season. I heard the rumour yesterday and thought they would have to get this done quickly since auditions begin next month or July. yesterday when I first heard this rumour, I was very excited because I was thinking it would be a nice fresh take on the show that should be drama free, at least from the judges standpoint.

The show has apparently signed on Jennifer Hudson as the first of the former Idols hired to judge. Even though Jennifer didn’t win her season, she has went on to do more than the runner-up and winner of her season. I think she will do very well with judging the new crop of Idol hopefuls this upcoming season.

The next judge who is reportedly close to signing her judging contract is Kelly Clarkson. Once again I think she would do very well at this job. I also believe that she is due for a nice break from her music career. She is the original American Idol and has been busy ever since her win on the show. Even though her popularity keeps growing and she is even now beginning to do stuff in country music, I feel a well deserved break is due for he. A season on this show could be just that break she needs, while not letting anyone forget about her

The next and final judging spot seems to be going to a guy. The two names being thrown around are Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken. I feel like Adam Lambert would be better suited for this position. Like Kelly he is current and well-known for his music. The only thing that could hurt him is his popularity is higher over in Europe as opposed to over here in the US. I think he would just be able to work better with the future contestants than Clay Aiken would. I just feel like if you have the über successful ladies above judging, you need another star like Adam to feel in the last seat.

I think this idea is phenomenal and a way that could excite people to come back to the show. The whole point of this is to show everyone that while American Idol is losing in ratings, it still remains the only competitive music show that has been able to launch stars. It also is a make It’s a way to showcase their biggest success stories as judges. I feel like FOX also has to know that if this doesn’t work and if any other changes that are coming can’t life the show back up, nothing will. I also would like to think that FOX realizes that it will never rise back as the mammoth that it was. It won’t be the bright star on the TV landscape that it was.

Let me know in the comments what you think about the new judges and where American Idol is going? Also let me know if you’d rather have Adam Lambert or Clay Aiken as the final new judge?

Idol Editing

I meant to do this post after watching Thursday nights American Idol, but I forgot. I figured I would do it now. After the premiere I wrote a blog and slammed Mariah Carey, but after watching Thursday night, I have to wonder if one of two things happened.

First, I wonder how long of a time span was there between the New York City auditions and the Chicago auditions? I’m wondering if maybe Mariah saw footage and didn’t realize she was coming across as a “it’s all about me” type of way? That is the Mariah we saw Wednesday night on the premiere.

Second, I have to wonder if Idol decided to edit in such a way that made showed all of Mariah’s bad parts and all of Nicki’s good parts? Mariah seemed to be less about her and more about the contestants Thursday night when compared to the premiere Wednesday night. She was just the right amount of ego, “all about me”, that I would suspect from an artist like her that has won it all. I think this is probably the most likely option.

Either way, Mariah is still going to be a diva who is pissed that they let another female on the judges panel. I’m Team Nicki all the way. That doesn’t mean I don’t like Mariah Carey or her music, it means I know more about Nicki than I know about Mariah. All I know about Mariah is she use to be a huge selling artist and I believe is still the artist that has sold the most albums(not something that is really looked at today). Most people my age and younger are only really going to know her from her awesome Christmas albums. I know she had some singles on the radio in 2009, but I couldn’t recall their names.

So, do you agree that maybe Idol has edited together the clips to build up a huge explosion? The show couldn’t have created the explosion, but they sure can edit it together to show the build up towards this Wednesdays explosion at the Charlotte auditions. Let me know in the comment section and also let me know if you’re Team Mariah or Team Nicki.

A New Idol

As American Idol host Ryan Seacrest said tonight at the beginning of the show, a new era for Idol has begun. An era that seems to be filled with drama fueled by the drama mama diva, Mariah Carey, herself. You could tell from the beginning the producers were going to play up the Minaj vs. Carey in a big way. The very first time you see the two together, they are rolling eyes and taking jabs at each other.

I really had no idea that Mariah Carey is so egotistical. I mean, yeah, she has an awesome voice and can hit those high notes, but personality as to count in there somewhere. Right? She really comes across as someone who thinks she is better than anyone else in the room. She really needs to remember that many younger viewers really can’t recall anything that she has done except for her amazing Christmas albums. I’m 22 and cannot think of a name of any chart topping song. I think one of the most annoying things about her on this show is how she brings every thing back to her. You could literally be talking about doing anything and she has a comparable story or something that can top it.

I think one of the funniest things tonight was when Nicki started doing her British accent. Guess what? Mariah started doing it too. It seemed like they were both trying to top the others use of the accent. It reminded me of when Kristen Wiig and Rose Byrne’s characters in Bridesmaids started to try to top the other’s speech at the engagement party. It was kind of ridiculous on Mariah’s part, considering it was obviously something that Nicki was doing before she started.

In case you think I came into the show rooting for Nicki, you’re wrong. I thought maybe Nicki was provoking Mariah, a lady I assumed was down to earth and caring. I was wrong. Mariah comes across as I’ve stated, egotistical and even fake. She just seems genuinely fake to most of the contestants. But, hey! It is a win-win for Idol, because they got people like me watching after getting so bored with it two seasons ago that are watching again. So, way to go FOX and Idol.

I can’t wait to see what comes of the drama throughout the season. We have still yet to see the big blow up that occurred to make Mariah, “scared” for her life. That should be good since now Mariah has extra security because she is afraid that Nicki is going to kill her. Now if that isn’t drama, I’m not sure what exactly is?

Now it is your turn to let me know what your thoughts were on tonight’s Idol, and on the Nicki and Mariah feud down below in the comments. It is much appreciated! Thanks!

-Jake

Va Va Voom- Nicki Minaj

Apparently, “Va Va Voom” was originally set to be the first single off of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, but was cast aside in favour of “Starships”. Personally, this is one of my favourite tracks from that album and I am happy that it was released as the lead single off of the re-release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded The Re-Up. Even though the song talks about sexual acts and desires, the song comes across as possibly one of Nicki’s cleanest songs that she has ever done. This doesn’t really matter that much to me, but I feel like that is what helped “Starships” perform really well.

The track is one that you can easily be dancing to at the club or listening to in the car. I have read that the song could be classified as an electronic dance music song, but I disagree. I don’t really hear a hint of dubstep like some have talked about it having. I think I would leave this in with the general pop music category if I had to choose. The song is currently at #22 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the track was just released towards the end of October, so I think it will still prove successful for Nicki.

The music video is probably one of my favourite Nicki videos and maybe that is because it has a story and point to it. It just isn’t Nicki barely dressed shaking her earthshaking ass and her big titties(who doesn’t mind those shaking about?) around the whole music video. Nicki apparently wasn’t happy with the music video once it was completed, but obviously released it in October along with the track to radio.

So, please tell me in the comments below your opinion of “Va Va Voom” and/or Nicki herself. Personally, I think the haters are always gonna hate on Nicki and her success. I say let them cause their hate only makes her successes that much sweeter for her and her fans.

RATING: 5/5

Nicki Is A Sweetie

Some people really hate Nicki Minaj’s music for her songs lyrics which go through the nasty side of “bad words”. My father was recently horrified when I had to drive him somewhere and I made him listen to Nicki’s new album Roman Reloaded. I’m 21 and quite old enough to listen to this music, but he hates Nicki. Nicki Minaj has stated that she wants parents to keep her youngest fans away from the uncensored versions of her songs. She said she is strict with her nieces and nephews on saying those words and would be horrified if she knew a parent was letting their children listen to the uncensored songs. So, see… Nicki Minaj has a heart. I didn’t doubt that, but I think a lot of other people do. I personally love when she goes hardcore and nasty while rapping.

SNL Beyonce Baby Sketch

Saturday on SNL Maya Rudolph hosted “Saturday Night Live”. Typically when an SNL alumni host the show, the show is a good one. This was the case last saturday when Maya hosted. The monologue was funny and Maya and Amy Poehler did the “Bronx Beat” sketch which I frackin’ love! Maya was known for doing her Whitney Houston sketches, but those obviously did not show up saturday night. Maya Rudolph was looking rather pretty on saturday night. Girl can clean up.

My favorite sketch of the night was the Beyonce Baby sketch where Maya is seen playing Beyonce. The rest of the crew play Jay-Z and the train of celebrities that come to visit baby Blue Ivy Carter. My favorite celebrities that were portrayed were Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. All the celebs were well done, but those two were the funniest and right on the money. Take a look at it below and tell me what you think?

Super Bowl Controversy… They Wish

Apparently they are trying to blow up the rapper M.I.A. giving the middle finger into something bigger. NBC was late to block it out and some places are trying to say it is what is gonna be remembered about Madonna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show. I think not… I didn’t even notice M.I.A. giving the finger. Besides, I think anyone watching the Super Bowl has probably seen this before. People are so ridiculous wanting to cause trouble where their isn’t any.

As for Madonna’s performance I think it went smoothly and was good. Having LMFAO come out was to interest the younger crowd that isn’t sure about Madonna, Cee Lo Green was to advertise “The Voice”, and Nicki and M.I.A. are of course featured on her new song, which they are there to show that Madonna can still hang with the cool kids. Some are mad that she lip synced which I think is crazy. When you are moving around a lot like that, though Madonna didn’t dance a ton, and you are on a world stage like the Super Bowl you don’t want to mess up singing. You want and need it to come off perfect. I love The Black Eyed Peas, but maybe ast year they too should have used recorded vocals.

I guess we will see how far they blow up this middle finger thing.

Music Video: Give Me All Your Luvin’ feat. M.I.A and Nicki Minaj

Well, it has arrived, Madonna’s first single and music video for her upcoming new album. The album is to be called “MDNA” and is her twelfth album release. The album will be out March 26, 2012.

I wasn’t sure what to think of Madonna after hearing recent interviews where she slams Lady Gaga and other pop artists. She came across to me as bitter and hateful which I of course hope isn’t the case. Madonna needs to realize that her last album was “Hard Candy” which was released back April 19, 2008. She left a hole for a longtime in the music industry that Gaga was able to fill. Now I will say that as far as music goes I like Madonna and don’t plan to turn this post into a Madonna vs. Lady Gaga type of deal. I think you can like both and I would be lying if I said Lady Gaga isn;t who I would choose first. Why? Lady Gaga is just a few years older than me and I’ve been with her music since she came out. Madonna already had a few albums out by the time I was born and had a bunch of albums out by the time I was old enough to actually want to listen to her.

With all of that said, I am excited to see Madonna is back with some new music. I really liked “Hardy Candy” and her November 2005 release “Confessions on a Dance Floor”. “Confessions” was when I was 15 and was actual the first Madonna album I owned and listened to, so my first full exposure to her. When “MDNA” comes out I am sure that I will buy because I am sure it will be a great album. I hope that she becomes less bitter sounding and acting as the year moves on. She is Madonna, people will be talking about her forever, probably long after everyone who reads this is gone. The single sounds fun and seems like it will be one of those songs that you will hear in your head all day long. Plus, she added Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. just to real people in even more. So now to the video: What do you think of it?
