Rebel Yelling

Zach Galifianakis gave us an awesome SNL last Saturday and Kristen Wiig is sure to give us an amazing show this Saturday. I have to ask NBC and SNL one question though. Why has Rebel Wilson not been on the show this season? Apparently Ben Affleck is set for the season finale, a show which I felt Rebel should have had. I felt like she really could have closed down this season in an amazing way.

Rebel Wilson’s fame has only grown since her debut on Bridesmaids in 2011. Her popularity only has soared since Pitch Perfect last fall. I would consider Pitch Perfect to be her breakthrough role where she was given a lot of air time. Pitch Perfect has become a huge success since its home video release and along with it Rebel Wilson. Rebel WIlson’s next project is apparently a comedy show on ABC called Super Fun Night for ABC.

Rebel WIlson also just hosted the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, which I will have to say, she killed it. I think she has more than proven her comedy chops and it is surprising to me that she wasn’t asked to host this year. She would have been a better choice than Melissa McCarthy, whose second round of hosting SNL was more lackluster than her first round.

I guess I can always hold out hope that Rebel will get her chance to host SNL next season. Maybe we will even see her Saturday has a special guest on Kristen Wiig’s hosted show. I really think Rebel Wilson would be a ratings boost for SNL. Let me know in the comments if you think Rebel Wilson would be an amazing choice to host SNL?

MTV Finally Ready To Scream

On Thursday, MTV announced that it was ready to move forward with its plan to create a scripted show based on the hit slasher film franchise Scream. The show is one that has apparently been in the work for over a year, I heard about it a little after the last film came out April 2011. According to Deadline Hollywood, there is still no writer attached to the project. There apparently isn’t even a real concept on the table for this show except that they know they are doing it. I feel good about the people behind MTV’s hit show Teen Wolf working on this project. It is also being said MTV is trying to get the director of the films, Wes Craven, to direct the pilot.

I remember at one point  hearing that Kevin Williamson would potentially work on it as he worked on the movies. His schedule was busy when they first talked about it because of him working on The CW’s flagship series The Vampire Diaries. I only see him getting more busy, and less likely to work on this Scream project, as I’m sure he will work on TVD spin-off The Originals this fall. So, that is kind of a big bummer.

If all goes well, and it better since MTV already has placed this on their summer 2014 schedule, this show can be a really awesome show. I am a HUGE fan of the movies, even the last one. I liked how the last one was almost a parody of what the three previous movies had done and made so serious.

What are your thoughts on a Scream television show.coming to MTV? What are your thoughts on the Scream film franchise? Let me know in the comment section!

Where’s The Music MTV?

A lot of people are always talking about how MTV isn’t about the music anymore. There are many that are even hateful about it. You would think MTV was a government program that was sanctioned to provide us with music videos twenty-four hours a day. Guess what? MTV isn’t a government program and music videos just weren’t paying the bills anymore. Less money can be contributed to websites such as You Tube and it’s channel(now website) VEVO that have music videos that are just a search away. The day TRL signed off for good, the hopes of music coming back to the channel checked-out without it.

MTV went with the success of their original reality series The Real World and built upon that. While not all shows have succeed, those that have have all put their mark on pop culture. In the past we’ve seen The Osbourne’s, My Super Sweet 16, The Hills, Laguna Beach, Jackass, and many more. You probably get the picture though.

Controversy pays really well and that is where we start talking about the 16 and Pregnant Teen Mom series, and our beloved Jersey Shore. They have all proven that they’re needed to pay the bills. Jersey Shore of course brought unexpected record ratings and was a huge cultural event across the globe. Both show have brought along scandals, shocking moments, and babies.

MTV really hit it big during 2011 when it started to show its own original scripted programming. The first show Skins, a remake of the worldwide hit British show was cancelled. You can’t really blame the program or MTV for this. Those annoy bitches at the Parents Council were the main culprits of its cancellation. These people seriously should watch the British Skins, they would literally go into compulsions if they thought MTV’s version was bad.

Luckily, that show experience didn’t deter MTV from original scripted content. During summer 2011. the network released two shows that have proven very, very successful for the network. The most widely successful show is Awkward., a comedy about a high school girl named Jenna who has a public blog on which she journals her private thoughts for the world to see, and becomes well-known at school for becoming a part of a fake suicide attempt. The show is very funny, and everyone who watches it can’t help but fall deeply in love with it.

The second show is Teen Wolf, which is more of a dark re-imagining of the movie of the same name that was a comedy. The show is pretty self-explanatory with that title and is MTV’s answer to The Vampire Diaries. Teen Wolf has gained a large fanbase as well and continues to do well in ratings. It has it’s scary, suspenseful moments, and its love scenes. All together it is a pretty well-rounded show.

The newest show to hit MTV is Nikki and Sara LIVE!, which is doing very well. MTV was smart to get on the cable, late-night show women bandwagon that was started when E! gave Chelsea Handler her talk show, Chelsea Lately. The shows has two hosts Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer who are both very down-to-earth and very funny women. They just wrapped their first season last night, and hopefully won’t be gone for too long.

I think you can see with all of this success why MTV has chosen to drop music. Despite what many people seem to think, MTV hasn’t dropped music completely. They just don’t show it during peak times when advertising dollars aren’t really a major player. MTV shows MTV Clubland, it is based on the genre of EDM, from 3a-4a; AMTV shows from 4a-6a and 7a-9a, and is Top 40 based, and MTV Jams is on from 6a-7a.

MTV removed the phrase “Music Television” from its logo in the last year and the name MTV really is more of an homage of the channels past than its present or future. I do like how since they are still involved with music, they show what song is playing and what artist during their shows as the songs get played. Take that Shazam app.

I’m not as affected by MTV losing it’s beat, literally, since I’m young enough that I only caught the original show on the very tail-end of that era. When ad dollars are up for grabs, music just doesn’t pay visually anymore. I suppose the channel could have just folded, and that would have upset people as well.  I think they are doing well with their late-night comedy and scripted shows and I do think that is the future. The future maybe could feature more music based programming. Ke$ha’s new reality show premieres next Tuesday. I mean, it is music based.

What are your thoughts on MTV and their past, current, or future content? What kind of programming would you like to see in the future on the network? Let me know in the comment section.

Social Services, Jenelle Is Pregger’s Again

Jenelle Evans is an example of a person that should have been forced to have her tubes tied. She is pregnant with baby number two despite not having custody of her first-born, 3-year-old Jace. She proved she was not mother material on Teen Mom 2 leaving her son with her mother, Barbara, for days at a time. What was she doing while she was a way from her child? She was doing drugs and fucking a worthless guy. What even makes this white trash tragedy even more great, is her husband, Courtland Rogers has a child as well. Guess what? He doesn’t have custody of his child either. I can only assume that he probably has the same drug issues as Jenelle herself has had.

I personally hope that Barbara gets this second child as well. It doesn’t sound like Jenelle is doing much better than when Jace was born three years ago. I hate to put more pressure on Jenelle’s mother, but it seems like this is the option for any of Jenelle’s current and future children. I believe that Jenelle might have just gotten pregnant at that Ke$ha concert that she went to instead of going to her court appointment that she missed by going. Keep that white trash flag flying, girl, keep it flying!

Who Is Taylor’s New Song About

MTV releases a VMA promo with Kevin Hart and Taylor Swift(you can watch it below). It starts off with her strumming a guitar and kinda singing her new song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”. Now originally I felt like the song was about Joh Mayer, but that doesn’t make too much sense to me considering her last song pretty much laid out that he hurt her badly, so they didn’t keep breaking up. It’s not Taylor Lautner because she says in “Back To December” that she would take him back. We know it isn’t the Jonas brother because he’s married now and she has already written three songs about that relationship. So, is it Jake? I wouldn’t have said the song was about Jake at first. I really can’t imagine Mr. Gyllenhaal breaking up and then getting back together like a little high school girl in a relationship, but I also can’t say he wouldn’t. Then in the VMA promo Kevin Hart holds up a picture of his head pasted over a pic of Taylor and Jake walking hand in hand. This leads me to believe the song is in fact about Jake and she told without really telling. That is my take on this latest lesson of Swiftology.

MTV Movie Awards Rant

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards was great this year for the most part. Russell Brand did a fantastic job at hosting and was very funny. I like how he doesn’t care to go there or talk about what others might seem “sensitive” subjects. He even poked fun at his own failed marriage which I think is great that he can do that. There were other bright spots throughout the awards, but my main rant is coming from the movies nominated.

I guess I had never really realized that pretty much any movie from the last MTV Movie Awards to the current one can be nominated for that current years show. I don’t like this. The 2012 awards should have only been for movies released during 2011, that’s January, 2011 thru December 31, 2011.The Hunger Games,as much as I love the books and movie shouldn’t have been able to be nominated for any awards considering it just came out in March of this year, 2012, not 2011. I believe it was the only movie that wasn’t released in 2011, but it still annoying. I really wish this would be changed, but I assume it has always been that way.

My only other problem with the show was that Breaking Dawn Part I brough the “Movie of the Year” to the Twilight franchise once again. I just feel like with last years great, unique movies they shouldn’t have won. There were so many great comedies that should have been able to win that award, Bridesmaids being my top choice followed by Horrible Bosses. I have to understand though, most of the voters are tween to teenage girls who are planning a pregnancy while watching 16 and Pregnant, so anything other than a Twilight movie ever stood a chance.

Goodbye, Teen Mom

The original Teen Mom will be ending after season four. MTV announced this recently and I am happy about this. The main reason I am happy is because I was already considering not watching Teen Mom 2 or 16 and Pregnant anymore. But I love the original Teen Mom and was going to continue to watch it. I think it is a good choice and time to end the original Teen Mom after four seasons. Like Jersey Shore it is beginning to be the same stuff and drama over and over. All TV shows reach their peak and Teen Mom peaked last season, maybe even season two. I will miss it, but I look forward to the reunion ten years from now!
