When I saw The CW was advertising a show that looked like their 2009 reboot of Melrose Place, I was a little shocked. That reboot lasted only one season and saw horrible ratings. I watched the whole season and didn’t find it horrible(except for Ashlee Simpson’s acting), but it didn’t blow me away or excite me either. The only reason I can think that The CW would try this show is that it is a cheap midseason replacement for the myriad of their cancelled shows.
The LA Complex is cheap for The CW because it is a Canadian show that I am sure is cheap to license to show here in the US. It is also the perfect midseason replacement because season one only has six episodes which will fit in from last nights premiere until the end of winter TV season in May. In Canada the show hasn’t ever hit 100,000 views per episode, but that is okay because Canada has a smaller population. That is enough to make it popular and have CTV’s parent company, Bell Media, order a full 13-episodes for season two. We will see how this show plays out here in the US. Such a similar show, but cheaper because they aren’t developing it and hiring the actors and everything involved with making a show.
The only thing that made me want to watch it, was Cassie Steele from Degrassi(another Canadian import on Teen Nick, but that does well). She hasn’t been on Degrassi in a few years and I was glad to see her doing something, but even she couldn’t draw me into watching The LA Complex.
So, did you watch The LA Complex? If so, how did you like it?
