The People’s Actress

I’m not sure there has been a down to earth actress that seems to relate to us regular people. Even the most “normal” actress still seems above what the rest of us are. We finally seem to have an actress that it just one of us; she just happens to be an amazing actress. That actress I’m talking about is the Louisville, Kentucky native, Jennifer Lawrence.

If you haven’t heard of Jennifer Lawrence, you must have been dead for the last few days. That is the only way that you wouldn’t have heard anything about her. You would have had to spend the last year on an abandoned  island somewhere if you haven’t heard from her until recently. She was first noticed a few years ago when she was nominated for Best Actress with her performance in Winter’s Bone. Now her fame as escalated with her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise. I truly believe that The Hunger Games will just be a blip on this young actresses career. She is not going to be known forever as Katniss unlike her Twilight counterpart, Kristen Stewart, whom will most likely always be known as Bella.

What makes Jennifer less likely to be known for one very popular role versus someone else? It would be her acting. If you have seen Jennifer in action, you will know that this girl can act. It comes so effortlessly from her. The emotion that she is able to give off is stunning and she is destined for greater things than a young adult series turned movie, no matter how great that series may be. If you haven’t seen Silver Linings Playbook, you must now. It is the role that Jennifer was nominated and won Best Actress with this year. She plays such a complex character and gives off every emotion that she should. She does it very well at that.

Even I believe that it is impressive and admirable how unimpressed Jennifer seems to be with Hollywood. She has even talked out against these starlets that act like they’re better than everyone else. I think she has a good chance to continue her life unspoiled by the evils that Hollywood can bring out of people. We are talking about the girl who almost passed on playing Katniss cause she was fearful of becoming too famous. Jennifer just liked playing parts in movies like Winter’s Bone or Silver Linings Playbook because she just liked acting.

Many of these reasons are why Jennifer Lawrence is the people’s actress. I have heard no one bad mouth her or  say she hasn’t deserved anything that she has earned in her short career. I think in the years ahead, we will see Jennifer to more and more great films. Spotted in, we will probably see some big productions and I am hoping maybe a few comedies. If her SNL performance or her interviews are anything to go by, she could do well in comedy. Plus, I’m talking about a girl that I feel could do well in any movie she wanted to do.

Below is a video of Jennifer’s post-Oscar interview. It really shows how laid back and unimpressed with Hollywood that she has been known for. After you watch that, please leave comments on your opinion of Jennifer below in the comment section.

Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Trailer Review

If you are looking for a frame-by-frame, Star Trek geek reviews, you won’t find that here. While I have always preferred Star Trek to Star Wars, I don’t know all the intricate details about Star Trek. Keeping that in mind, Wednesday we got a sneak peek at Star Trek Into Darkness with a teaser trailer. I like that this movie looks to show us more of the futuristic world. I was intrigued by the future and farm clash in the last movie set in Iowa. The movie looks like it is packed with a lot of action which is good and it made me want to watch the one that came out in 2008. It probably has been a little over a year since the last time I watched it. The teaser trailer also shows us Chris Pine’s sexy ass. Yay! Checkout the teaser trailer below.

Breaking Dawn: Part Two Review

I went into Breaking Dawn: Part Two not sure what to expect from this film. The book had been my favourite book and I was happy to see the book be turned into two films considering the book seems like two different books. I also wasn’t sure if I would like the much talked about change they made from the book in the movie. I waited to see the film until Thanksgiving Day because I didn’t want to face the crowded wrath of teenage girls and their sexually suppressed mothers and other middle-aged women.

As far as the opening sequence of the movies, I always love to see how they open the movies, talking about the title and what the sun or moon is doing in the sequence. I though the whole opening sequence was very artsy and probably the best of any of the movies. It sort of reminded me of True Blood‘s opening sequence. Anyway,  felt like the movie ran well and didn’t leave any boring spots. The movie ran fast enough that the waiting for the epic battle at the end I knew was coming didn’t seem to take that long. The movie is the shortest of the four movies with a 116 minutes runtime. We go through Bella’s aggression towards Jake, her ability to not want to rip mortals faces off, Renesme growth and uniqueness, and the Volturi decision to come to the Cullen’s and end them, and the collection of witnesses of Renesme’s growth. This leads up to the battle between the Volturi and the Cullen’s and their gang(the other vamps and the werewolves).

The battle begins when Aro decides that even though the child, Renesme, is a half-child, she must still be destroyed and the fight begins. The fight is gruesome and some things start to happen that I didn’t remember in the book. Carlisle and Jasper Cullen are killed along with Seth and Lea. I was confused and shocked, but went ahead with it and accepted it, maybe for the movie they needed more casualties that didn’t happen in the book. Then right as Bella kills Aro we are taken back to where Aro is still holding Alice’s hand and is still reading her memories. The fight never happened, unlike in the book. Seeing what the future holds for himself and the rest of the Volturi, Aro tells the rest of the Volturi to leave and head back home.

I felt that the above change was okay. I did like in the book they get some what of a victory at defeating the Volturi during the fight scene. The rest of the movie ended well with the flashback of Edward and Bella through the movies from the first time they met until the very last minutes of her human life. I also liked the ending that showed Jake and Renesme on the back in the future with Edward and Bella meeting up with them.

Overall, I think this was the best movie out of the saga. I’m probably biased because I read the books and like this book the best. The books were overall better than the movies, but considering how far the movies have come since Twilight came out in 2008, this one was closer to the books and felt like an actual movie. Fan or hater, I say check this one out. Even if you wait until it comes out for streaming or DVD/Blu Ray, watch it.
